Dr. Marsha Dickson, professor and chair of the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies, was honored as Distinguished Scholar of the International Textiles and Apparel Association (ITAA) in 2011. The award is given to a current ITAA member for their "continuous and valuable contributions to scholarship in the field" and included a keynote address at the association's annual conference and a cash prize.
Dickson is internationally regarded for her research on social responsibility and sustainability in the apparel industry. Her scholarship examines the efforts of apparel brands and retailers to ensure the products bearing their names are manufactured under good working conditions and labor standards that protect workers' rights and the environment.
Dr. Dickson previously won the All Star Award offered by Apparel Magazine and ITAA. In nominating her for the award, Dr. Suzanne Loker of Cornell University wrote, "Dr. Dickson is a leader across disciplines in social responsibility in the apparel industry."
Loker went on to say "The most significant is the range of her accomplishments focused on social responsibility in the apparel industry and their impact on students, academic colleagues, and industry professionals. She has published ground-breaking research, crafted curricula focused on social responsibility, founded and led Educators for Social Responsible Business (ESRAB) for over ten years, served as a board member of the Fair Labor Association, and author of two published books and an on-line book that present and analyze social responsibility as one of the major issues of our industry and other global industries today."
Congratulations Dr. Dickson!
