​​Developing individual artistic passions; serving the community

The arts at UD encompass music, theatre, dance, fine arts and visual communications and provide undergraduate and graduate students with academic training and practical experience to prepare them for a variety of careers in the arts. At the same time, a vast selection of arts performance and studio arts courses are open to all students. These programs serve the entire UD population and wider community. Signature departments and programs include:​

Resident Ensemble Players (REP)

  • Our nationally acclaimed resident professional theatre company
  • Provide campus and community with professional productions from classic, modern and contemporary repertoires

The Department of Music (NASM accredited)

  • Offers instrumental and vocal ensembles serving all University students
  • Is home to award-winning ensembles that perform at regional, national and international music conferences and competitions
  • Through Project Music, connects Music Education students and Delaware Symphony Orchestra members to bring classical music to K-12 classrooms   
The Department of Art and Design
  • Offers a nationally ranked MFA program in Studio Art
  • Allows undergraduate BFA students to specialize in either Fine Arts or Visual Communications
  • Features facilities including a large computer lab, digital and electronic equipment and spacious studios
  • With the proximity to major cultural centers of the northeastern U.S., provides students with easy access to important museums, galleries, internships, field trips and an outstanding program of visiting artists


  • The newly established minor in dance is a joint program between the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Health Sciences. It provides students the opportunity to study dance as a performing art while also pursuing complementary coursework in areas such as dance science, pedagogical methods and an exploration of dance in world cultures.
