Available Graduate Student Scholarships

The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) provides full and partial tuition scholarships for graduate students who are enrolled as degree candidates in CAS graduate research and professional programs.  Many CAS graduate students receive a stipend for work related to their degree, including Teaching Assistants, Research Assistants, Graduate Assistants and Fellows.  Any such student receiving the minimum stipend for work related to his/her graduate efforts is eligible to receive a full tuition scholarship (for more details, see specific department/program policies).

Minimum 9-month stipends (which may change annually) and other policies are determined by the university, and are described at http://www.udel.edu/gradoffice/polproc/tuitipol.html. CAS upholds university policy regarding minimum 9-month stipends (which may change annually).

Fellowships Not Funded by the College

CAS graduate students receiving a fellowship stipend that is not funded by the college are eligible to receive a full or partial CAS tuition scholarship. For internal UD awards (for example, University Graduate Scholars) the tuition scholarship will be for any portion of tuition not covered by the fellowship. For external fellowships (for example, a Fulbright award or dissertation fellowship) full or partial tuition scholarships can be provided on the recommendation of the department.

Approval process: department submits a request to associate dean, with a copy to Dee Smith.

Miniumum Stipend as a Research Assistant

CAS graduate students receiving at least a minimum stipend as a Research Assistant for thesis or dissertation research under advisors in non-CAS units are eligible to receive a full CAS tuition scholarship.

Approval process: department submits a request to associate dean, with a copy to Dee Smith.

Stipends for Work-for-Pay

CAS graduate students who are offered stipends for work-for-pay from CAS or non-CAS UD units (for example the UD Library, the McNair Scholars Program, or CAS Undergraduate Academic Services) may be eligible for a full or partial CAS tuition scholarship. Students must demonstrate how the work in which they will be engaged is relevant to their course of study.

If a majority of credit hours will be taken outside CAS in the semester for which a tuition scholarship is sought, this fact must be noted in the request, along with an explanation of why this is appropriate for the student’s course of study.

Approval process: department submits a request to associate dean, with a copy to Dee Smith.

Tuition Semester Awards

CAS also provides a limited number of tuition semester awards annually for use by departments to support matriculated students who are not receiving full or partial stipends for on-campus work assignments.

Request process: annual departmental budget planning process.
