Before applying to the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies (BALS) program, you should download and print the following:
Once you've reviewed these documents, you should:
- Discuss your general interest in the program with Academic Program Manager Chantelle Batson.
- Choose three faculty members you'd like to work with and one of whom will act as your primary advisor.
Discuss your interests and develop an outline of the initial draft of
your proposal with them.
- Write an initial draft of your proposal and share with your advisors.
- Develop a final draft of your written proposal with your faculty advisors.
- Request that your primary faculty advisor write a letter of recommendation justifying the content of your proposal.
- Submit your program proposal, together with the form attached to this
description, to the BALS program administrator 4 Kent Way, no later
than March 15 or October 15.
Your proposal will be evaluated by an ad hoc committee
appointed by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. This
committee is a faculty committee that is responsible for overseeing the
BALS program and appointing all candidates.
The committee will approve or disapprove your program, and the
committee's decision will be communicated to you in writing. The
committee may provisionally accept the proposal, based on your agreement
to incorporate various changes.
