From Shakespeare essays to lab reports, writing is relevant to every area of academic study. The Writing Center is hosting a series of workshops to help students across academic disciplines strengthen their writing skills and engage in the University’s writing community.
There will be five virtual workshops for students to join throughout the fall semester. Each installment will examine a different topic of writing, from developing academic voice to creating student-lead writing groups.
Students can sign up to attend the workshops on the registration website. Participants will receive a Zoom link via email after registering. Each workshop runs for one hour.
“Writing in College” on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 3:00 p.m.This workshop is an introduction to college-level writing for first year students. It will be hosted by the Writing Center’s director and tutors.
“Managing a Long-Term Writing Project” on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 3:00 p.m. At this workshop, students will learn strategies for using informal writing to plan and manage long-term formal writing projects.
“Writing Groups 101” on Friday Oct. 20, at 1:00 p.m.Featuring a panel of UD faculty and graduate students, this workshop aims to empower students to create their own writing groups dedicated to sharing resources and developing their writing skills.
“Mastering Academic Voice” on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 2:00 p.m.This workshop will discuss academic style and provide hands-on practice to help students strengthen their own use of academic voice.
“Giving Effective Presentations,” on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 3:00 p.m. This workshop features a panel of oral communication consultants who will cover effective presenting tactics, such as creating visual aids and managing anxiety.
