CAS Student Advisory Council Roles and Responsibilities

The College of Arts and Sciences Student Advisory Council (CASSAC) is a diverse group of undergraduate students who represent a range of academic majors in the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, as well as a variety of extracurricular backgrounds. Members share the concerns of their peers and provide feedback and guidance to the Dean and college administrators on how the college can best serve and engage with the student population. The college values this feedback, and will share information with department chairs, program administrators and faculty on a relevant basis to encourage positive outcomes.

All CASSAC members are expected to fulfill the following responsibilities and time commitments:

• Attend one CASSAC meeting per month during the Fall and Spring semesters.
• Join a social networking hour with the Dean's Advisory Council in the fall and/or spring.
• Represent concerns of the CAS student body at meetings.
• Communicate curricular, extracurricular and noteworthy components of your CAS/UD experiences to fellow student council members and to the Dean. Topics may include, but are not limited to: academic programs (including new and existing programs), student learning outcomes, study abroad and research opportunities.
• Serve as an ambassador for the college by attending at least one college-wide event per year, including the State of the College (October), Celebrating Achievement and Success (May), and/or Alumni Weekend (June).
• Recruit/recommend fellow students as potential CASSAC members.

Council members will serve one-year terms with one-year reappointment possible. Reappointment does not require a new application.

Member Nomination Process

To apply to become a member of CASSAC, please submit the following through the CASSAC w​ebpage:

• A brief paragraph describing your reason(s) for wanting to become a member of CASSAC.

• A brief letter or email of recommendation (not to exceed 250 words) from an academic or personal reference attesting to the student's broad range of academic and extracurricular interests.

• A brief bio to include: current major/minor; area of interests; most recent employment information; involvement in any extracurricular activities; home city, state, and current contact information (email/phone). Upon becoming a member of CASSAC, your bio and a professional headshot will be posted to the college's website​.
